  1. What does an Acupuncture Session feel like?

Acupuncture needles are solid and thin—compared to injection needles, which are used blood-drawing or vaccines. When used properly, acupuncture needles cause little to no pain. Each patient will receive acupuncture differently.

The initial administration can be followed by a tingling, numbness, heaviness, or warmth. During a session, people often express feeling of calm and relaxed. At the end, the Acupuncture Physician quickly and painlessly removes the needles and disposes of them safely. Symptom relief may occur immediately, or in the few days following a treatment.

2. Is Acupuncture Safe?

As an official practice of alternative medicine, Acupuncture is very safe. Sterile, single-use disposable needles are used. They are sealed by the manufacturer and opened for immediate use. The treatment has relatively few side effects, if any, which may include slight bleeding, soreness, or bruising in the treated area. The National Institute of Health commented that “adverse side effects of acupuncture are extremely low and often lower than conventional treatments.” They also stated:

“The incidence of adverse effects is substantially lower than that of many drugs or other accepted medical procedures used for the same condition. For example, musculoskeletal conditions, such as fibromyalgia, myofascial pain, and tennis elbow… are conditions for which acupuncture may be beneficial. These painful conditions are often treated with, among other things, anti-inflammatory medications (aspirin, ibuprofen, ”etc.”) or with steroid injections. Both medical interventions have a potential for deleterious side effects but are still widely used and are considered acceptable treatments.”

3. How many treatments does it take to notice change(s)?

The perceived start of therapeutic effects depends on each patient and their particular circumstance. This includes the patient’s health (diet, lifestyle, etc.), condition being treated, how long the condition has been present, and the frequency of sessions received. While some patients experience significant changes to their symptoms after the first treatment, others may require between six and ten treatments.
